Yishun – a great place to live, work, play

Yishun is not typically ranked as one of the top areas in Singapore to live. In recent years, it’s been the butt of many jokes following an unfortunate series of events. But is its unfavourable reputation deserved? If you look a bit closer, Yishun actually has plenty going for it that makes it a great place to live, work and play. Here are some things you may not know about Yishun:

Yishun was home to Singapore’s first suburban mall – Northpoint

By now we’ve all gotten very familiar with the concept of heartland or suburban malls, but Northpoint Shopping Centre in Yishun was in fact the first of its kind. Recently reopened after a major refurbishment, Northpoint will also feature an integrated bus interchange and community centre once completed.

Yishun was one of the first 3 areas selected for the ‘Remaking Our Heartland’ programme

This initiative, first announced in 2007, ensures that older estates are modernised and rejuvenated to make them even more attractive places to live. Along with Punggol and Dawson, Yishun was chosen as one of the inaugural batch.

Yishun enjoys close proximity to the Mandai area which currently houses the zoo and night safari. Plans are also underway to develop a cluster of eco-friendly wildlife attractions.

Speaking of nature, Yishun is just a stone’s throw from Lower Seletar Reservoir, a popular spot for fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers.

There’s no shortage of housing options in Yishun, so it takes something special to stand out from the crowd. One of the newest and most compelling residential developments drawing tenants is Symphony Suites.

Symphony Suites’ concept is one of harmony with nature and its surroundings. Located on the corner of Yishun Avenue 6 and 9, its rear side looks out to the tranquil Sungei Khatib Bongsu and Seletar Island. The condo itself features 660 luxurious units on a massive land area of 221,247 square feet, with point block designs and generous block-to-block spacing so that you don’t feel closed in. With up to 28 metres separating the blocks, that leaves plenty of space for water features, greenery, and of course, facilities.

The full suite of facilities is definitely one of this condo’s major selling points. If aquatic fitness is your thing, this is without a doubt the place for you – how often do you have access to a full-length 50m lap pool right at your doorstep? Or an aqua gym? If you have young ones, or strenuous exercise just isn’t your thing, there’s even a family pool, wading pool, and kid’s water play area.

For the land lovers, you can also get your body moving at the tennis court, half basketball court, jogging path, and fitness station. When it’s time for leisure, there’s a music jamming room to bring out your inner rock star, and multiple pavilions for hosting parties.

When you need to come back to the city, Symphony Suites is conveniently located right next to Junction Nine for all your shopping needs. There is also a free shuttle service to and fro Yishun MRT and Northpoint City.
